PFAM101:
Intro to Patrick Famaran

As a student

I am currently enrolled at the University of Waterloo as a 3rd year student studying Honours Knowledge Integration. This program is dedicated to drawing on interdisciplinary knowledge and applying them in creative and innovative ways towards solving complex problems.  I am pursuing a specialization in Collaborative Design and minors in Management Studies and Economics.  Specifically, I'm really interested in the ways that consumers and products interact with each other and how networks generate on a global scale. Using this breadth of knowledge, I look forward to learning about and hopefully making an impact in the business world.

Outside of academia, I currently serve as the Director of Communications for the Knowledge Integration Student Society (KISS) and was an external ambassador for the Queen's Business Environment Today (QBET) conference.

My Interests

I am extremely passionate about learning new things and creativity. I love coming up with new ideas for entertainment purposes (screenplays, stories, art) and for productivity purposes (designing schedules and organizing workspaces).

Outside of this, I am a dedicated tv buff who constatly cycles through the same 5 shows: How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Scrubs, Futurama and Suits. These television shows provide countless references and contribute to my bank of creativity. Because of my obsession with these shows, I sometimes imagine my life as a television show (where classic tv tropes and cliches happen). In addition, I am an avid reader currently working on the Freakonomics series.

With regards to sports, I play basketball, volleyball and I golf. For professional sports, I am a part of Spurs Nation - A fanbase for the San Antonio Spurs for the National Basketball Association (NBA). I really admire their team philosophy - teamwork above all.

This past summer, I embarked on a Western European tour. Starting from Amsterdam, the Netherlands; I made my way to Lunde, Sweden; then proceeded to Copenhagen, Denmark; onwards to Berlin, Germany; then Prague, Czech Republic; Rome, Italy; Geneva, Switzerland; Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; and finally, Dublin, Ireland. Based on this, you can tell that I am a very committed traveler. I will elaborate more on my trip in the "My Journey" page.

The Personal Me

According to my Foursight Assessment, I am a developer with a strong ideator influence. Simply, this means is that I tend to come up with brand new ideas then define and refine them so that they are ready to be implemented.

This is a pot that I made a few years ago. It is reminiscent of the Greco-Roman period and depicts Hercules.

Healthy Eating by Patrick Famaran (Vitamin P)

Growin' up I was confused, my veggies tasted gross,

That was until I found out that they stimulated growth

Eating well is beneficial to you and to me

Because it gives me the energy

To combat disease

(Yeah, Yeah)

Gotta show some love to the four food groups

Mix it up a little, and drink some soups

Add a roll on the side

Then prepare for an energy ride

You gotta have your carbs for the day

Or else you won't have the energy to play

You can get this from rice or a loaf of bread

It's true, it's what my doctor said

(yeah, yeah)

Now scroll over to the green side

Of Canada's ffffffffffood guide

To the left you will see a sneak preview of a rap (or rhythm and poetry) I wrote to promote eating healthy. I used the name Vitamin P (mostly because you need your daily dose)

To see an example of my creative process, I have attached a screenshot of a prezi I made. Instead of creating a slideshow, I used the prezi software to create a mindmap, a visual representation of my ideas.

To the left is a Scrubs compilation and to the right is a Friends compilation. I do not own any of these clips, they belong to their respective uploaders and are registered Trademarks of ABC and NBC

Together with my team, we prototyped a Light Rail Station, going through all of the steps of the Design Thinking Process.

Our aim was to create the most efficient and sustainable station for the Waterloo Park stop.

This project was done as a result of the INTEG 121 curriculum.
